Japan Content Showcase 2013 Final Report

Japan Content Showcase, which brought together The 10th Tokyo International Music Market (TIMM); TIFFCOM2013 the marketplace for film & TV in Asia; and Tokyo International Anime Festival Fall 2013 (TIAF) has successfully ended. The Showcase was held at GRAND PACIFIC LE DAIBA in Tokyo’s Minato Ward from October 22 (Tues) to 24 (Thurs), 2013.

 

This year saw participants from 26 countries and regions (up from last year’s 25), and the number of exhibiting organizations was 316, our largest ever. (The number of exhibitors last year was 275.) The number of registered buyers also saw a 109% increase from 2012 to 1074 people.
 
The three days of Japan Content Showcase saw 22738 visitors, a 176% increase from the previous year.

Exhibiting organizations: 316 (275 in 2012) *new record
Exhibiting countries and regions: 26 (25 in 2012)
First-time exhibiting country: Cambodia

 

Top three overseas exhibiting countries and regions:
1. The Republic of Korea, 34 businesses
2. Taiwan, 23 businesses
3. The United Kingdom, 16 businesses

 

Overseas pavilion exhibitors: Cambodia, Canada, Indonesia, The Republic of Korea (for films and TV), Malaysia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom – 10 exhibiting groups from nine countries
Estimated number of visitors: 22738 (12863 in 2012)
Number of buyers: 1074 (983 in 2012) *an increase of 109%
Breakdown of buyers: 525 from Japan, 549 from overseas (461 from Japan, 522 from overseas in 2012)

 

Countries and regions with the largest number of overseas buyers:
1.    The Republic of Korea, 115 buyers
2.    Hong Kong, 84 buyers
3.    Taiwan, 79 buyers

 

 

At CoPro Connection 20 projects from all over the world took part. The producers had meetings that included many major Japanese companies.

 

Tallinn Black Nights Japan-Estonia Partnership Award was newly founded. The award aims to encourage Estonian-Japanese film collaborations and co-productions and was selected from the five Japanese projects participating in the CoPro Connection. “Where the Peacock Fly” from Producer Misa Kimura and Director Hirofumi Kawaguchi was the winner. The project, which shows the relationship between a Japanese girl and a Burmese young man, with a key element of Cos Play thrown in, will be invited to Tallinn.

 

Overall CoPro Connection had a very lively and eventful 2013.


Next year’s Japan Content Showcase is scheduled to be held from October 21 (Tues) to October 23 (Thurs), 2014 at the Hotel Grand Pacific Le Daiba in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.
